Kneeling Stool

Kneeling StoolKneeling stool  is a way of sitting with the thighs dropped to an angle of about 60-70 degrees vertically (in contrast  to 90 degrees, as sitting on an ordinary chair), The original kneeling stool was the  balance chair, which was designed by Peter Opsvik and developed by Hans Christian Mengshoel in 1979.

Sitting on a kneeling stool  puts you in an upright position, which will automatically improve your posture, the natural shape of the spine. In this way, the gravity pressure evenly distributed across all disks to avoid excessive pressure on the base of the spine and encourages the lower back pain relief.

Kneeling stool  is a useful ergonomic aid  that:
• It helps maintain natural  ‘S’ alignment.
• It provides a stable upright by the weight on knees, feet and buttocks.
•  helps relieve the buttocks from hours of sitting pressure
• changes in pressure points improve blood circulation

The purpose of a kneeling stool is to reduce  lower back strain by promoting proper spinal alignment. People with pain in the tail or the tail bone by a considerable number of hours in a seated position are common candidates for these seats. However, there was no evidence that kneeling stools are a perfect solution, and a variety of designs to be considered as an alternative.

If you sit for an extended period, suffer from back pain, lower back or neck and pain in the shoulder then it is time to think about your posture.

The disadvantages of kneeling stools:

Unnatural and fixed leg position
Pressure on knees
Knees don’t flex even if it’s a rocking chair
Poorer leg circulation
Cumbersome to sit down or stand up

The advantages of the kneeling stools:

Lots of natural leg and foot positions, encourages movement
Regular movement of knees & ankles
Excellent for leg circulation
Very easy to sit or stand
